Tweed Racing - An Evolution Since 2009
History
The original Battle on the Border commenced at the request of Cycling Queensland after the Sunshine Coast Tour was cancelled. Together with the Tweed Shire Council and New South Wales Police under the guidance of Stan Brims and Greg Bateson, the first Battle (as named by Griff Davies) included a four-stage tour with 312 riders.
Over the years the Battle has operated in various sites including Salt, Murwillumbah, Stokers Siding, Tumbulgum and grown to a maximum field in 2015 of 710 riders and remains a tour of two road races, time trial and criterium. In 2012 the Battle welcomed Women NRS (National Road Series) and then in 2013 welcomed the Men's NRS teams.
Following successive flood years, the Battle had its final year after 10 years in 2018.
The new Tour de Tweed focuses on the purest elements of our sport whether it be the thrill of the race or joy of the ride.
Moving forward we are proud to work together and sport the Cycle for Life in support of the Donate for Life campaign.
Our mission is to celebrate the bike, bring the cycling community together for some great country laneway, and support the Donate for Life campaign.
